St Peter's School. 2015 NZ Secondary Schools Golf Champions!

St Peter's School won the 2015 New Zealand Secondary Schools Golf Championships held at Manor Park Golf Club in Upper Hutt. Held between the winners of 13 provincial qualifying events, and played over 36 holes in one day, St Peter's played well to win by an impressive 8 shots at the end of the day. The team of Sam Vincent ( 68,70), Charlie Smail (73, 73), Cameron Leigh (74, 71) and Focus Jonglikit (73,70) were only 2 shots ahead after the first 18 holes, but held their nerve to won over Bay of Plenty Aquinas College. The win gives us automatic entry into next year's Championships to be played in Nelson.

Academy member, Focus Jonglikit returns form playing in the States

Golfer, Focus Jonglikit, has returned to school this week after seven weeks away playing golf overseas.
She first spent 10 days at a Golf Camp in Bangkok, Thailand. 10 other young Thai golfers were offered a place on this camp with Famous Thai Golf Professional, Thaworn Wiratchant. Thaworn plays on the Asian Tour and has the record for the most victories, 18 in total. A highlight during this camp was meeting Thai Queen Serrit. The Queen is a big fan of women’s golf. The Asian-Pacific women’s golf competition The Queen Sirikit Cup played annually was formed by her.
From Thailand she headed to the USA. Initially based in San Diego, she played the following tournaments

  1. FCG International Junior Golf Championships, at Sycuan Resort, Oak Glen. Where she finished 18th in the 13-14 year old girls division. 25 countries and 40 US states were represented in the field.
  2. IMG Academy, Junior world qualifier. Focus had to win this to qualify for the IMG Junior World Champs. She did win, so went on to play.
  3. IMG Academy Junior World Championships, played at the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego. Over 1000 Junior golfers from all around the world played in this the largest international junior event in the world. Focus finished tied for 42nd.

She then travelled down to North Carolina

  1. Teen World Championships, 2015. Mid Pines Golf Club. Tied for 2nd.

She has had an amazing experience, and played on some of the best golf courses in the world. She said the heat was hard to play in, but, meeting so many similar golfers from around the world was a highlight. With practise rounds at all events as well as the tournaments means Focus has played a lot of golf.
